Tomorrow is Friday, November 11, 2011 or 11- 11-11. What does is it mean ?

11 11 11

Reading newspapers from the West, I see many notices about Friday, 11-11-11. There are offers to travel to Las Vegas, Reno, and other gambling destinations due tithe meaning of this date. Some are a bit funny – The Jefferson Hotel in Washington, DC is offering an 11-course tasting menu for $111.11 per person, with such options as a butternut squash tartlet, crispy-skin Arctic char, seared foie gras, and a dark chocolate palet with hazelnut ice cream and lemon cotton candy. A paired tasting of 11 wines costs an extra $111.11.

On this day, the yogis, metaphysics and fortunetellers are creating special events, metaphors and interpretations for this date such as: “The train is approaching the station; you can hear the whistle blow as it is winds around the corner into view. There is a gentle rumbling beneath your feet as it slows down to align with the boarding platform. Then you glance down at the ticket in your hand and notice that the present station reads, “Been There, Done that”. As you turn the ticket over the new destination reads, “My Life’s True Happiness”. While you sit and ponder the possibilities of where this might take you, the conductor calls out, “All aboard, last call!”  In other words, 11-11-11 is a turning point in one’s life and you could miss the train!  Western believers consider the date to be important from the numerological point, sometimes opening a portal into a new dimension.

NCCUIA interviewed a well known local numerologist, astrologist and fortuneteller Mr. Hester Chen about the importance of this number is in Taiwan and Chinese societies in general. According to a local numerologist — Hester Chen — in  Eastern culture, no special significance  is given to this number.  Chinese fortune-telling or astrology uses a traditional lunar calendar to predict fate and future. This calendar is different from the West which uses the solar calendar is the point of reference, such as the solar system used in ancient Aztecsian or Mayan societies in South America. That’s why it doesn’t make any sense for the local Taiwanese to celebrate the special event of 11-11-11…… But still, you can share this day with your friends. Right?

Every Sunday, Mr. Chen teaches and assists locals and foreigners through his readings about the future by interpreting the message sticks. You cannot live by Muzha without having seen Mr. Chen and delving into the mysteries of 5000 years of Chinese culture!!
